Soon into the game players will meet the character Eric. Despite offering an initial content warning to the natures of this individual, some players have deemed that’s not enough. You see, in-between all the sweet and cosy romances offered in-game, there’s one that turns sour. Already, it seems it’s been susceptible to discourse on the internet. This is by no means the first time a voice actor has experienced harassment due to the actions of a video game they portrayed Laura Bailey faced similar harassment for portraying Abby in The Last of Us Part 2.Boyfriend Dungeon, the hotly released dating sim rogue-like fusion dropped last week. While Boyfriend Dungeon's developers (via COGconnected) have responded to the controversy by expanding and adding detail to the game's content warning, Gross' experiences show the game is already in the thick of the backlash. One wrote, "People need to take a step back and take a breath when things like this happen to them. Other users responded to Gross' tweet with similar stories, such as YouTube and podcast host Laura Kate Dale, who commented, "I got hassled a few years back for playing a D&D character who did some morally not good stuff, by people who saw it as a reflection on me the person, and it really dampened my performance choices for a while." Others relayed their sympathy to Gross and expressed their shock that he would receive backlash on behalf of a fictional character. There's bad people out there, I don't support what these kind of people are doing/saying/thinking at all. Please be respectful." Gross continued to address those equating him with his onscreen character by emphasizing that Eric does not exemplify his real-life beliefs, explaining, "Saying 'it reflects poorly on me to play a character like this' is so confusing. I know he sucks, but I'm just his voice actor. "Hey I can't believe I have to address this, but please don't send me hate messages about my character in Boyfriend Dungeon. On Twitter, Alexander Gross, the voice actor for Eric in Boyfriend Dungeon, spoke out about players sending him hateful messages for the actions of the character he played in the game.

Some felt the game didn't do enough to warn players that heavy content like this would appear in what was viewed as little more than an action-packed dating sim. He sends the player weird and creepy texts, gives unwanted gifts, and then outright stalks the player character while committing acts of emotional manipulation and sending threats. As the game progresses, Eric gets more and more unsettling to talk to and engages in questionable behavior.
